An epic struggle of a 13 year eLearning veteran and instructional designer attempting to finally, really, simply get things right.
My name is Rich Benak.
Currently, I am working for a large health care organization with a title I’d rather not share, as it is vague and completely non-indicative of what I do.
I’ve been doing eLearning for a little while now. I have my set of idiosyncrasies; that for better or worse, allow me to be seen as an asset to the organizations that I work for. My primary job function consists of a lot of a little…or maybe that’s a little of a lot.
- I administrate the LMS
- I work with SME’s to develop online learning
- I do web development (ASP, javascript, a little AJAX) for project teams and Organizational Development specifically
- I do some database work
although I mostly muddle my way through thatand now will have “official” MS SQL Training. - I do Flash Development to enhance all of the above.
- I am a creative at heart and developer by necessity so I’m always looking for ways to make things more aesthetically pleasing as well.
I do have some background in Information Architecture too, so I try to apply those usability principles when I can. I occasionally teach a class the “old-fashioned” way by getting my ass in front of a group of people and utilizing whatever techniques I have learned and/or can steal to engage my folks in the content that I am teaching.
More than anything, I have a love and enthusiasm for technology. I also have strange maniacal obsession with figuring out how technologies work so that I can control them and make them bend to my will and carry out any and all tasks I can think of. Muahahahaha…..ahem…
